It seems like your TV goes out of date within a couple of years of buying it these days. By the time you’ve gotten used to it, you’re being tempted by a newer model. The rate of change and progress in TV designs is quite striking these days, so this isn’t really a surprise. You don’t need to know the history of cable TV to see the evolving nature of television. From aerials to cables, or satellites to broadband, smart features to voice-controlled. Now you even need to choose if you want it curved or disguised as a picture frame.

Here’s what you need to think about when you are buying a new TV.

Size and Space

These days there is really no limit to how big your TV screen is. Whether you want a huge one or a small one, it’s entirely up to you. The only thing that needs to be taken into consideration here is your own preference and the size of the space you have. A huge TV in a small room can be a mistake in many instances.

Inputs

Most of us don’t simply buy a TV so that we can watch TV shows. There are many other things that we spend our time doing. You might be interested in playing video games. For that to happen, the TV you need to has to have the right inputs to satisfy your games console. This is something that you should take the time to check while you’re browsing. There is nothing worse than getting it home and discovering that it doesn’t have enough inputs for your tech.

Display Types

There are a few different display types that are available, so you will have to decide which the best for you is. Plasma screens are still considered the best for many people. But LED and OLED are becoming popular too. If you’re looking for good colours and contrast, it remains hard to beat the plasma screen TV. But OLEDs to manage to save on power, so they may be the more energy efficient option if that matters to you at all.

Reception and Settings

The reception you get from the TV will depend on your aerial, so it’s important to sort this out before you buy. If you’re upgrading from a very old TV, you will have to ensure that the reception output is the same. You can take advantage of professional digital antenna installations if you need to. This allows you to make sure that you are getting the freshest digital reception. And you should also check out the settings on the TV. There are some settings, such as motion smoothing that are great for people who watch a lot of sports.

4K or Not?

This is one of the hottest topics of today. Should you buy a 4K TV or not? Is it really worth it? And what does 4K mean anyway? The first thing to know is that if you are buying them now, you are probably buying them ahead of time. There are few channels or formats that actually put out content in 4K because the consumer market has not embraced it yet. Of course, in the years ahead, we could all be watching 4K TVs, and then you’ll be ahead of the curve. But it is a gamble because it’s not yet sure to take off. If it does, the image will be sharper and far better than the HD images you’re used to.
