Pre-orders begin today! That was announcement from Apple yesterday when they unveiled the iPad Air 2 for £399 for the 16GB WiFi model.

Weighing less that a pound this new slimmer and lighter iPad measures only 6.1mm. Inside it’s tiny shell the iPad Mini 2 boasts a second generation 64-bit A8X chip which offers a 40% improvement in CPU performance and over twice the graphics performance compared to the original iPad Air.

This power in addition to their new ‘Metal’ graphics technology of iOS 8 means we can all look forward to “realistic visual effects comparable to the most advanced gaming consoles”. Couple this with the improved Retina display and custom-designed anti-reflective coating it certainly looks like Apple is targeting the gaming market as well as the simple internet user.

Other improvements include updates to the iSight and FaceTime HD cameras but they have also included the Touch ID functionality which sounds cool but I am yet to be convinced.

The prices for these new shiny pieces of tech start at £399 for the basic 16GB version, increasing to £479 for the 64GB version and finally £559 for the 128GB model. However, costs will vary if you want 4G versions.

Apple also announced In addition the iPad Mini 3, which has the same specs of the Mini with Retina Display but with the added Touch ID functionality. Prices start from £319.

Both the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 come in metallic gold, silver and space grey finishes and can be ordered online from today!
